Who are we?
We are the alumni of Florida Institute of Technology and Florida Tech living
in and around Los Angeles, California.
We are part of 35,000 alumni, including National Teacher of the Year
recipient, Tracey Bailey; Kay Hire, an astronaut who flew on the Space
Shuttle in 1998; Joan Higgenbotham and Sunita Williams, two astronauts who flew on the Atlantis in September; 1992 Olympic
medalist, Thomas Bohrer, of the silver medal winning rowing team; Tim
Wakefield, a pitcher for the Boston Red Sox; and Johnnie E. Wilson, a
four-star general (one of 18 current or retired generals to hold the Florida Tech
degree).
Thousands serve as scientists, engineers, pilots, and managers in many
high-technology enterprises, major airlines and the military. A recent survey
of new graduates revealed that, of those responding, 98% were employed in
their major field. Another 18% of those responding were enrolled in graduate
school.
Letter from the Chapter President
Hello Fellow Alum! I would like to present to you our chapter website. Take a look around and if you have any comments or suggestions, please contact me at fitalumnila@yahoo.com.
I am pleased to say that our chapter has shown increased activity this year. So far, we have hosted our 3rd Annual Barbecue, the President's visit, and an Anaheim Angels game. In the coming months we have planned a wine tasting trip and our 3rd annual pumpking carving. We hope that at least one of these events will inspire you to join us, meet your fellow alumni and just simply have
some fun.
I believe our chapter is capable of so much besides social gatherings. We can help our community, provide inspiration and encouragement to current and potential
FIT students, and support our alma mater. In November, we hope to participate in Toys for Tots, and there are numerous college fairs coming up in September and November that are in need of volunteers.
This year we have met one of our goals which is to hold two annual events - the President’s visit and the
chapter barbecue. Because of the size of our chapter area, both of the events
are designed to bring together all chapter alumni to meet, socialize and
network, while giving us the opportunity to show our support and enthusiasm
for our alma mater. The attendance we have had has been fair, but with the vast number of us out here, the turn-out could be quite impressive.
Although we may have graduated at different times, in different majors and
sometimes from different campuses, we all share the personal growth we gained
through our experiences and educations at FIT.
No matter how big or small your participation is with the chapter, it will
all add up to something great.
